The West Australian VHF Group was formed in 1955 with a core focus on very-high and ultra-high frequency radio communication such as: satellite, Earth-Moon-Earth and other applications of the frequencies above 30MHz. However, member interest extends from LF (longwave) through EHF (microwave) and the technology to utilise those frequencies. The club has been based at Wireless Hill (Noongar: Yagan Mia), in Ardross since 1972 with the generous support of the City of Melville.
Anyone with an interest in amateur communication is welcome at our activities and meetings.
We have regular meetings in the Operators Cottage at Wireless Hill in Ardross, just south of Perth (see map): 7:30 pm (local / West Australian Time) on the fourth Monday of the month (except December). People arrive from 7 p.m. for a chat and coffee. We also have activity days, usually on the 1st Saturday of each month (except January), and on 3rd Saturday of each month – 12 noon (local time), till about 4:30 pm.
Our “mates” club
WA VHF Group has a sister club (or “mates club” as we call it) in Bangor, Maine USA – the Pine State Amateur Radio Club. Perth is the most distant major city from Bangor which prompted us to work together promoting globe-spanning amateur radio experimentation.
